Why Space Camp?
In 2002, one of our former 5th grade teachers, Mrs. Coleen Martin, and I decided to offer a chance for Wilder-Waite students to take a trip to Space Camp as an awesome way to support our 5th grade science curriculum. As the trip has grown, we have been able to open it up to all interested 5th grade students throughout the district. Over the past 20 years, I, and numerous other teachers in the district, have had the pleasure of accompanying close to 1,000 students and parents to Huntsville for the trip. Having been involved with our first-ever trip, I take great pride in continuing to offer this opportunity to our district’s families.
Who sponsors the trip?
While it is open to all Dunlap fifth grade students and parents, the annual Space Camp trip is NOT sponsored by Dunlap School District. I have continued to act as the sponsor of the trip by planning and organizing over the years based on the amount of interest by district families. While our district’s administration and teachers have been extremely supportive of the trip, we have gone each year as an independent group.
